Selectboard Approves Short-Term Relocation of Downtown ACTR Transit Hub to South Pleasant Street

To prepare for this summer's installation of temporary bridges on Main Street and Merchants Row, the Selectboard at last night's meeting approved a recommendation to relocate ACTR's Merchants Row transit hub to South Pleasant Street starting on Monday, June 12.

The relocation is considered a short-term solution while the Town's Planning Commission assembles a working group to report back to the Selectboard in July with a recommendation for a permanent relocation.  The South Pleasant Street site is expected to remain in place into the Fall.

ACTR will occupy the six parking spaces on the western side of South Pleasant Street in front of 150 and 140 South Pleasant Street.  (Many will know 150 South Pleasant Street as the former location of Cole's Flowers.)  ACTR buses will pull out of the southbound travel lane into the parking spaces to pick up and discharge passengers.  ACTR buses will not idle will stopped except when offloading the ramp for wheelchair-bound passengers.  Traffic on South Pleasant Street will remain two way.  ACTR buses will be restricted to making a right-hand turn onto Cross Street.

The recommendation to relocate ACTR to South Pleasant Street was made by a group of stakeholders representing the Department of Public Works, ACTR, the Police Department, the Selectboard, and Town management in consultation with the affected property owners.
