The Weekly Takeaway: Normal two-way traffic and all parking now restored on Merchants Row. Champlain Construction ties in new section of Main Street waterline to the Town’s water system. Shut-off of water to Main Street rescheduled for Tuesday, June 27 (see below). The current two-way traffic pattern remains in place on Main Street. No change in parking on Main Street. Printers Alley remains closed to vehicles and pedestrians, as does the sidewalk between the National Bank of Middlebury and the Post Office.
Friday Wrap-Up
Parking and traffic on Merchants Row returned to normal as planned. Second water sample taken from new section of Main Street waterline (not yet operational) sent to lab for testing.
What’s on tap Monday: Main Street. A quiet day on Main Street as a third water sample is sent to a lab in Burlington for testing. Champlain Construction may do some additional work in preparation for connecting the new section of the Main Street waterline to the Town’s water system. The current traffic pattern and parking on Main Street will remain as is through the end of the week.
Alert: Main Street Waterline Shutoff Rescheduled for Tuesday. The new section of the Main Street waterline passed its first sample water test on Friday but not its second test on Saturday and so a third test will take place on Monday. These tests are designed to ensure that the Town’s water supply meets all State standards for water quality. The new section of waterline will not go operational until this is the case. If the third water sample is approved on Monday, the Main Street shutoff will take place on Tuesday, June 27. As noted, the tie-in of the new section will require an all-day shutoff of water starting at approximately 8 AM to the following buildings: the Post Office, the National Bank of Middlebury, St. Stephen’s, IPJ Real Estate, the Vermont Bookshop, Main Street Stationery, Sweet Cecily, Danforth, and Wild Mountain Thyme. I will have more precise info on Tuesday morning.
Parking Update. There are now 50+ spaces available in the immediate downtown area for parking. I counted 42 parking spaces on Merchants Row, including two handicapped spots, one in front of Edgewater Gallery and one in front of Bourdon Insurance. The roadway is rough in front of Carol’s Hungry Mind Café so please exercise caution driving on Merchants Row. Eleven spaces are available on Main Street, including two handicapped spaces, one in front of the Post Office and one in front of the National Bank.
