Temporary Bridges Update #20

Tuesday Wrap-Up

A late night on Main Street. The positive results of the third water sample test were not received until after 5 PM, and then we had to wait out the late-afternoon thunderstorm that passed through town. Middlebury’s Champlain Construction crew hit the ground running and worked late into the evening to complete the tie in of the new section of the Main Street waterline into the Town’s water system, restoring water service to Main Street around midnight.

What’s on tap Wednesday: Main Street. The good news is that, thanks to Champlain Construction’s late-night efforts, the Post Office, the National Bank of Middlebury, St. Stephen’s, IPJ Real Estate, the Vermont Bookshop, Main Street Stationery, Sweet Cecily, Danforth, and Wild Mountain Thyme now will not have to undergo a water shutoff during working hours. Wednesday will see continued backfilling of the excavated waterline, repaving of the area, and general cleanup in preparation for completing all work on Main Street by the end of the week.

Thanks to Middlebury’s Water Department for their support and cooperation during this key phase of the project.

Please keep your comments and questions coming. Send me an email at jgish@townofmiddlebury.org and I’ll try to cover it in my next update.
