2020 Update #13

Three-Day Closure of Merchants Row Rescheduled to Next Week

VTrans and Kubricky have let us know that the minipile drilling scheduled to take place in Merchants Row Wednesday-Friday this week is being rescheduled to next week.

A key component of the drilling rig—one that captures the slurry that is a byproduct of drilling—is late arriving.

As a reminder from Friday’s weekly construction update, Maine Drilling & Blasting is mobilizing back into town to begin installing minipiles in the lower section of Merchants Row to support the rail corridor excavation taking place later this summer.

Maine will install 10 minipiles in an area spanning from the curb in front of the former coffee shop to the middle of the road. To accomplish this work, Merchants Row will be closed to thru traffic, with that closure now taking place Monday through Wednesday next week.

The sidewalk in front of the Battell Block will remain open, including the walkway over the Merchants Row Bridge, but parking in front of the Battell Block will not be available during the day.

Merchants Row will reopen to traffic and parking will be restored at the end of each work day, approximately 5 PM.

That’s all for today. See you downtown.

Please keep your comments and questions coming. Send me an email at jgish@townofmiddlebury.org and I’ll try to cover it in my next update.
