Thursday Wrap-Up
As planned, Champlain Construction completed its work on Main Street, repaving the sidewalk that runs from the National Bank of Middlebury across Printers Alley to the Post Office. Kubricky and Champlain Construction loaded out their remaining equipment and cleaned up the construction area. By noon, we had returned Main Street to its usual travel lanes and restored all parking. That was me out directing traffic on Main Street as Kubricky took up the temporary lane markers and removed the traffic barrels!
What’s on tap Friday: Main Street. Not a thing. Phase 1 of the temporary bridges construction was completed one day early. All parking is back to normal downtown.
Update: Printers Alley. Printers Alley reopened to pedestrian traffic as planned midday Thursday. With no vehicle traffic in the roadway, pedestrian passage between the Marble Works and Main Street should be a lot safer. The section of Main Street right in front of the National Bank of Middlebury is a little rough from the waterline excavation so please be careful when parking in those spaces.
A Night at the Movies. The Better Middlebury Partnership wanted me to remind you that their Midd Summer Music and Movies festival is now in full swing. Next up: the movie Princess Bride will be shown Wednesday, July 5, in the new park on College Street. The movie starts a little after 8:00 as its gets dark. Come on down and bring the kids. And Thank You. Thanks to all who emailed or met me on the street with suggestions, feedback, and encouragement to keep these daily updates coming. And special thanks to all in our downtown community who had to bear the brunt of the construction work. Your patience and good humor are much appreciated.
