2018 Update #40

Main Street Bridge Temporary Shutdown; Carol’s To Close

If you regularly drive down Main Street, you’ve probably noticed that the pavement on the temporary bridge is deteriorating. It’s particularly noticeable if you’re heading “downhill” from North Pleasant Street or Seymour Street. The combination of hot summer weather and heavy truck traffic has pushed the pavement up off of the bridge deck in places in the westbound lane.

So the time has come, one year after its installation, to repave the temporary Main Street Bridge.

Here’s what’s going to happen and when so you can plan around it.

On Thursday, Kubricky will close both lanes of Main Street Bridge starting at 7 AM in order to safely strip the pavement from the deck of the steel truss bridge. That work should last about two hours, but it will impact commuter traffic in the morning.

Following that, Kubricky will use flaggers to close one lane at a time so that they can tighten the bolts that secure the steel truss.

That’s Thursday.

Then on Saturday, Kubricky will again close both lanes of Main Street Bridge starting at around 6 AM in order to repave the bridge deck. They expect to reopen the bridge by 10 AM.

There are no plans at present to repave Merchants Row.

The work is weather dependent. I’ll be in touch if the plan changes. Thanks for your patience for this temporary inconvenience.

On a final note, I did see that Carol’s Hungry Mind Café expects to close its doors for the last time at the end of the day on Tuesday. I’m sure John Melanson would appreciate hearing from one and all if you have a chance to stop in and thank him for his years of service to our downtown and our community.

That’s all for today. See you downtown.

Please keep your comments and questions coming. Send me an email at jgish@townofmiddlebury.org and I’ll try to cover it in my next update.
